Project Management

With Meridian, you have a skilled partner to guide you through the entire translation process.

The Project Manager will work closely with you to develop long-term translation strategies so that Meridian can meet your current and future needs most effectively. The Project Manager is your primary contact with Meridian. The PM manages the project team, budget, and schedule; as well as day-to-day project progress, glossary creation and maintenance, design and layout, and deliveries.

Meridian's project managers are trained and practiced in coordinating large, multiple-language projects. Every project manager has his or her own specialty, such as software localization, online help compilation, or desk-top publishing. Project Assistants, assigned according to the project's requirements, provide overall project support and coordination between different project managers and their specialities.

Translation and Localization Process

Planning: The Project Manager reviews the product and prepares a detailed project plan for the localization team.

Glossary Build: A glossary is developed to ensure consistency across the current project and future versions. This includes industry terms, UI terms, proprietary names, etc. We ensure that your translated materials comply with industry-standard terminology and conventions (e.g. Microsoft's GUI).

User Interface Translation: A translator reviews the product and translates the user interface. Next, a proofreader edits the localization for accuracy, consistency and adherence to standards. Lastly, the client reviews the localized material for technical accuracy.

Graphics and Dialog Resizing: Once the translation of the UI (dialog boxes, menus, and strings) is completed, we resize the dialog boxes and adjust the graphics to make the translated text fit perfectly into the user interface.

QA of Localized Program: Our QA team tests for technical and linguistic accuracy. A native speaker checks the program on the native operating system to ensure the accuracy of the translation at run time, especially looking out for truncated strings, and hard-coded strings possibly left in by the client.

Documentation Translation and DTP: Using the localized UI as a reference, the translator translates the documentation. Next, an editor proofreads the translation for style, grammar, accuracy, consistency and adherence to UI standards. A DTP specialist takes the proofread document and formats it to make it look exactly like the source. The client then reviews and approves the translated material. Lastly, we make screen-captures of the localized program, and insert them into the translated documentation.

Online help: We evaluate the source help files and identify the areas which are likely to cause problems during compilation in the target languages. We work with the client to modify the source files, in order to avoid those problems. We make screen-captures of the localized application, and insert them, recreating "hotspots", after translation and proofreading. We then compile the .hlp files and QA them, topic by topic, against the originals.
